Domaine Barmes-Buecher is a family-run estate nestled in the Vosges foothills in the heart of the Alsace region, just a few kilometres from Colmar and Eguisheim. It was founded in 1985 when Genevieve Buecher and Francois Barmes united vineyards that had been in their respective families since the 17th century, creating a consolidated holding planted with a diverse array of Alsace grape varieties.Β
From the early years the domaine committed itself to biodynamic viticulture, officially converting its vineyards in 1998 and securing certification by the 2001 vintage. This ecological approach places respect for the living world and the rhythms of nature at the centre of both vineyard and cellar work, with manual practices and minimal mechanisation helping to preserve soil health and express the subtleties of each site.
Today Maxime Barmes leads the viticulture and winemaking, supported by his mother Genevieve and sister Sophie, continuing the family tradition with meticulous care. The estateβs vineyards spread over several lieux-dits and include plots in three Grand Cru sites, each contributing distinctive characters to the wines. The domaineβs bottles reflect a close dialogue between terroir and vintage, resulting in expressive wines that are rooted in Alsaceβs heritage yet shaped by a modern biodynamic responsibility.
