Lay & Wheeler Trading offers storage solutions for all clients. Wines bought through Lay & Wheeler Trading, unless otherwise specified, are automatically moved to the purpose-built Coterie Vaults, where the wines are left to mature in optimal conditions. However, should a client wish to open their own account or transfer their purchases elsewhere, the logistics team at Lay & Wheeler Trading will be happy to assist. Storage fees are charged on a monthly basis, details of which can be found below.

We’re pleased to offer clients up to 60 days of complimentary storage, depending on when the wine is received or withdrawn.
  • If wine arrives at any point in a calendar month, that month’s storage is free.
  • Monthly invoices begin the following month, e.g. wine arriving in August will first be invoiced for September storage.
  • Invoices continue monthly until the wine is withdrawn via sale, delivery, etc.
  • If wine leaves your account in January, after being invoiced for December, it won’t appear on February’s invoice for January storage.
The exact number of free days varies, but can total up to 60 based on the timing of receipt and withdrawal.

Costs

From April 2026

Storage, annual rate per 75cl bottle: £1.50 (ex VAT) per bottle per year. For example:

  • 12x75cl case: £18 (ex VAT) per year.
  • Smaller cases or individual bottles: priced proportionally based on the number of bottles.

To further simplify your transactions with us, we are pleased to let you know we are now offering Direct Debit payments for storage charges, with a special discounted price available for all customers who sign up:

  • 12x75cl case: £15 (ex VAT) per year.
  • Smaller cases or individual bottles: discounted proportionally based on the number of bottles.

Storage fees are charged monthly.

For any cases remaining in your account on the last day of the month, storage fees will be charged on the 1st of the following month. This price is inclusive of full insurance cover at market value. Cases which are delivered throughout the year will be charged on release.

Handling Fees (ex VAT):
Exclusively for wines sent to us for storage or brokering, not those bought through Lay & Wheeler Trading. If cases are being sent in for brokering, an additional charge of £5 per case will apply for photos, unless current photos can be supplied prior to arrival.
