2021 Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino
One of Montalcinoβs star estates is the superb Conti Costanti, who produce some of the highest quality wines in the whole of the Montalcino region at refreshing prices. Antonio Galloni writes; βI have long thought of Costanti as a top ten estate in Montalcino, but I am now convinced this property could belong in the top five.β We have just received an allocation of the epic 2021 Brunello di Montalcino, which has scored 99 points from Kerin OβKeefe, making it one of the best priced top tier 2021 Brunellos at just Β£340 IB per 6. Released alongside this excellent 2021 is the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva at just Β£320, which scores 98 points from Kerin OβKeefe. This wine is also seriously good value.
If you want to make amazing Brunello you need lean soils, serious know how, but above all else β you need some altitude. Costanti has it all: Harsh galestro soils, about 500 years of experience and 440 metres of altitude grown near the village of Il Greppo, which is one of the leading sites in the district. (Their next-door neighbour is the legendary Biondi Santi.) The resulting wine is some of the most elegant and complex you will find from the whole of Montalcino. Costantiβs Brunelloβs are structured and built for ageing, rather than immediate impact. This is one of our favourite wines this vintage and comes recommended for itβs amazing quality, but also itβs value. Donβt miss the magnums!

More on Conti Costanti
The Costanti family has owned this 10-hectare estate in Montalcino for over 200 years. In the latter part of the 19th century, Count Tito Costanti [1827-1895], Clementi Santi and Ferruccio Biondi Santi were pioneers in Montalcino. Tito was producing wines made from a single Sangiovese clone locally known as Brunello and very early on, Tito distinguished his wines from others by referring to them as such. In August 1870, Tito presented his first Brunellos from the 1865 and 1869 harvests at the Exhibition of the Province of Siena…
