Tasting Notes

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru is much more conservative on the nose than Domaine Leflaive’s: touches of peach skin and lanolin, a little ‘sunnier’ in style though without the mineralite of its peers. The aromatics coalesce and gain delineation with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed texture. Lots of extract here, lightly spiced with a waxy-textured finish that lingers-this is actually a better wine than it first seems. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is a beauty, bursting from the glass with a youthfully expressive bouquet of pear, orange oil, toasted hazelnuts and white flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with a fleshy attack that segues into a deep, layered mid-palate that’s girdled by lively acids, it concludes with a long, expansive finish.

Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet shows white orchard fruit in some volume. This is tightly wound for a Combettes, with lifted white fruit, very good energy through the middle of the palate, and a trace of ripe citrus at the finish. Structured and youthful. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted Nov 2023.
Anticipated maturity: 2029-2037
