Tasting Notes
Antonio Galloni 95
The 2009 Corton is impeccably refined from start to finish. Endless layers of red fruit, flowers, licorice and sweet spices caress the palate in this impeccable, breathtaking red. This is an absolutely gorgeous, striking wine endowed with extraordinary textural finesse and elegance. Sweet, perfumed notes caress the palate on the rich, resonant finish. In 2009, the Corton is pure finesse and class. Ideally, the 2009 is best left alone for at least a few years, but readers will need to be disciplined, as the wine is already delicious, even today.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2014

The 2009 Corton is super-impressive. It shows a fabulous combination of ripeness and structure buttressed by persistent saline notes that frame the fruit all the way through to the finish. The textural brilliance of the fruit is impossible to miss in this impeccable, totally polished Corton. I am not sure the 2009 will make old-bones, but it is sure to provide thrilling drinking along the way. Tasted from tank. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. Bonneau de Martray is an excellent source for both white and red Corton. The estate is currently in the midst of conversion to biologic farming. The red Corton is not imported into the US, but is available elsewhere. Even in 2009 the style tends towards elegance rather than power. According to proprietor Jean-Charles la Bault de la Moriniere, much of that can be attributed to the exposure of his vineyards, which receive a lot of light but not as much heat. The Pinot Noir harvest began on September 9th. The estate vinified the Pinot (100% destemmed) in two cuves, which saw 19 and 22 days of maceration respectively. Malos started in May 2010 and ended in August, and the wine was racked into steel in the fall to settle prior to bottling.
