2022 & 2023 Alain Voge Cornas Vieilles Vignes
The late Alain Voge belongs to a legendary tier of Rhone vignerons. As a leading light of his generation, he spent decades developing the international reputation of Cornasβ dizzyingly steep terraces, whilst single-handedly spearheading the revival of neighbouring Saint-Peray. Today, under the precise direction of Lionel Fraisse, the estate continues to champion that signature balance between modernity and tradition.
The 2022 and 2023 Les Vieilles Vignes are sourced from 60-to-90-year-old vines planted on dramatic, 200-meter-high south-east-facing slopes. Here, the roots delve deep into worn, local granite rock known as gores, yielding tiny, highly concentrated crops of under 20 hectoliters per hectare across several historic lieux-dits (Combe, Patou, La Cote, Tezier, Mazards, Chaillot and the old vines of St-Pierre).
The newly released 2023s are an absolute triumph. The 2023 Vieilles Vignes was highlighted as one of the top-scoring wines of Cornas in Matt Walls’ Decanter report, perfectly embodying a vintage praised for its βfresh, supple and drinkable redsβ. For those seeking immediate, structured power, the 2022s offer great density from tiny yields, with Jeb Dunnuck noting that the 2022 Vieilles Vignes delivers a powerful, full-bodied character that βis more similar than not to the Vieilles Fontaines, if not a touch richer.β We also have the 2022 and 2023 Les Vieilles Fontaines available, offering a direct side-by-side comparison of the estateβs two main cuvees.
βThis wine is a testament to Alain Vogeβs unique approach to Cornas, showcasing his extraordinary talent and solidifying his status as one of the gifted winemakers in the region.β

More on Alain Voge
Alain Voge, who sadly passed away in September 2020, was one of the leading winemakers of Cornas and Saint-Peray in the Rhone. A large part of these appellationβs international fame can be attributed to Vogeβs input who first started working in his fatherβs vineyards in 1958.
