2024 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia

2024 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia has been released today at £220 IB per 6x75cl. The second wine of Ornellaia, it is made from the same varieties and under the same philosophy as the estate’s flagship. The 2024 vintage got off to a mild, rainy start before warm, sunny conditions arrived in summer, giving the vines time to build concentration while retaining freshness. Ornellaia describes it as a balanced and dynamic vintage, producing wines of freshness and aromatic intensity.

There are no shortcuts in the cellar, either. The blend is 49% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Petit Verdot and 13% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted, with each variety and parcel vinified separately before the wine spends around 15 months in barrique, 30% of it new oak, followed by six months in bottle.

Aldo Fiordelli awards the 2024 94 points, describing it as “a spicy wine” with “refreshing acidity and velvety tannins that are firm, extracted and grainy yet sweet”. The finish, he says, is tight, muscular and savoury.

Reasons to drink, collect, or invest
  • “Le Serre Nuove is arguably the ‘business card’ for Ornellaia” – Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter
  • Le Serre Nuove may be the second wine, but it comes from the estate responsible for two of Italy’s great names: Ornellaia and Masseto.
  • It is made with the same philosophy as Ornellaia, offering a more accessible expression of the estate’s style.
  • Fiordelli calls it “very tasty” – a wonderfully straightforward verdict on a wine with considerably more pedigree than its “second wine” status suggests.

More on Ornellaia

The estate’s diverse soils—comprising marine, alluvial, and volcanic origins—allow for an exceptional expression of Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Ornellaia is deeply committed to crafting wines that authentically reflect their terroir, balancing power, elegance, and complexity…
